Project Desciption

Balancing Power with Simplicity
Designing for DeFi means addressing both ends of the user spectrum—those familiar with decentralized protocols and those just starting out. Our approach focused on reducing cognitive load through progressive disclosure: surfacing only what’s essential at each stage of the journey. Features like slippage control, gas fee visibility, and token pairing were made accessible without crowding the interface, resulting in a smooth yet robust trading experience.

Trust and Transparency Through Design
Since FirstDex offers full self-custody, it was crucial that the design communicate trust at every touchpoint. We used consistent iconography, clear wallet status indicators, and secure prompts during transaction signing to reinforce this. The on-chain nature of every transaction was visually emphasized, making users feel in control while building confidence in the integrity of the platform.

The Challenge

The DeFi space is complex, and Indian users often struggle with trust, usability, and the lack of clear guidance. FirstDex needed an interface that felt secure, intuitive, and informative. The goal was to design a powerful trading platform that didn’t overwhelm beginners but still served the needs of advanced crypto users.
To address this, we had to deeply understand the mindset of Indian crypto users—many of whom are mobile-first and cautious about security. Our research showed that users abandon DeFi platforms when faced with unclear actions, technical jargon, or unfamiliar flows. Therefore, every interaction on FirstDex had to be purposefully designed to feel effortless, safe, and reliable. From token selection to transaction confirmation, the experience needed to anticipate questions and guide users with confidence.
Another key challenge was presenting multi-chain functionality in a way that felt seamless. Since FirstDex supports 300+ tokens across various blockchains, we had to create a system that clearly communicates which chain a user is on, what gas fees apply, and how bridging would affect the transaction. All of this had to happen without disrupting the flow—requiring thoughtful UX decisions, dynamic feedback, and smart defaults that made advanced features accessible to everyone.
